In an article written for the Catholic Thing, Gerhard Cardinal Mueller, former head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, attacked Universalism (Apocatastasism all religions are equal, everyone will be saved) and Religious Indifferentism (it does not matter to what religion a person belongs).
“God is not simply omnipresent and equally present in all religions,” he said in the article. An off-hand criticism of the apostasy accused by several theologians, bishops, and cardinals, including Cardinals Burke and Eljik.
“This self-communication of God as a Grace and life of each man is spread in the world by way of the Church’s proclamation of her life and her cult,” he said in the article, excluding other religions.
The Church has consistently taught that the Catholic Church is the sole Church of God (Christ) and that other religions do not, in and of themselves, confer Salvation. Rather they are extremely limited vehicles to God’s Grace. One would also say they provide many stumbling blocks, including jihad (murder).
Importance: In Abu Dhabi, Francis signed a document saying: “The pluralism and the diversity of religions are willed by God.” A heresy many allege since it contradicts Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition (Saint Augustine, Saint Ambrose, in consequences: Pastor Aeternus (Dogmatic Constitution of Vatican I), Chapter 2, Number 9):
“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”John 14:6
